Nothing is Perfect

Nothing is perfect.

Thank goodness that Goldie Hawn had reminded me of this simple life truth yesterday. Because I kind of needed to hear it today. And who knows, maybe you do too.

Recently I discovered that my lovely blog subscribers were not receiving email notifications of new posts due to some technical glitch in techn0-cyberland. In the midst of trying to sort it out, I opted to migrate to sending out a weekly newsletter usingĀ  MailChimp, something I’ve done in the past without any issue.

I spent an hour or so yesterday carefully prepping my newsletter, sending preview tests to my own email account (in which it looked fine) and finally scheduling it to go out this afternoon.

So imagine my dismay when I got a few emails from people who’d received my newsletter, telling me that it was filled with techno-gobbly-gook.

Fudge!! No, really. I wish I’d had a piece of fudge in hand to make that frustrating moment a lot sweeter.

Then I remembered Goldie’s words, “Nothing is perfect”.

I was watching Oprah’s Master Class last night (oh, come on and admit it, you love it too!) which featured Goldie sharing bits and pieces of her life story. One bit she shared included an incident in 6th grade. Her teacher had invited her to participate in the school dance recital but just before all the kids hit the stage, including Goldie, the teacher told them, “Everything must be perfect!”

Goldie was horrified since she knew she wasn’t perfect. She just loved to dance. Re-assured by her mother (who also admonished the teacher) that she was more than a capable dancer, Goldie took to the stage and simply danced her heart out. It may not have been a “perfect” performance however it was one that Goldie noted brought tears to that teacher’s eyes.

What is perfect anyways? Does anyone really know? Why do we keep striving for perfect when giving with our full hearts and doing the best we possibly can is perfectly enough.

So my newsletter had a few glitches today and it wasn’t perfect. Technology isn’t perfect and I certainly don’t claim to be a technical genius by any means. I do the best I can and I do it with heart.

And that’s perfectly all right by me.
